It is impossible not to be impressed by the sheer scale of the Gothic interior of St Patrick’s with a simple yet very beautiful ceiling. If only we could have heard the organ playing as well to show off its acoustics!! In The Nave the most dramatic features are undoubtedly the beautiful mosaic flooring with a distant view of the High Altar. The choir stalls are decorated with the helmets and standards of the Knights of Saint Patrick. Behind the High Altar is The Lady Chapel – a small, beautiful, chapel which was recently renovated and is used for smaller services as well as many of the Cathedral Choir School and Grammar School services and concerts.
There were of course many other areas and items in the Cathedral of note, especially the stained glass windows, the pulpit and the marble archways in the Lady Chapel. The fact that this Cathedral was built in the 12th century by men without any of today’s mechanical devices or technology is truly remarkable.
The fifteen members who attended enjoyed the outing very much.
