Duckett’s Grove is a ruined 19th-century great Georgian country house that was redesigned in a castellated Gothic revival style. We journeyed from there to Huntington Castle. The Castle was originally built as a defensive garrison in 1625.
Our first port of call was a very welcome coffee and cake in the beautiful courtyard, where the peacocks proudly strutted around but not to proud to beg for scraps from the tables. We enjoyed a great variety of Irish trees and the impressive Yew Walk. The castle grounds also boasts one of the earliest water turbine houses in Ireland which provided Huntington with its own electricity as early as 1888.
A great day out was had by all.
