The morning was very pleasant and cloudy, but there was no cold in the air. The wind which was quite noticeable onshore was not present when the boat reached the dinghys. The transportation to the island was messy, with the dinghy having to moor in a mass of seaweed. Some members had wellys, while others made their way in their bare feet. Nevertheless all members made it without any mishaps.
We spent a pleasant few hours on the island, and the sun appeared to warm us even more. The Puffins made their appearance, though not in the same numbers as in previous years. This may be due to the fact that the chicks have not yet hatched and the parents are not so busy as they will be in June.
The few members that had not been to the Saltees previously were blown away by the spectacle and promises were made to return again this year.
At three o’clock we departed through the seaweed again and adjourned for coffees in Kilmore Quay.
