A few early arrivals partook of coffee and cakes in the Armoury Café.
A few (more eager) early arrivals visited the nearby German Cemetery to avail of the early morning light.
St. Kevin’s Church, at the entrance to the Centre, was the first port of call. This Church is still in use and we were informed that there was a service planned for later in the day.
The majority of the Group then made their way down the steps to the nearby Glencree River. At the bottom of the steps there is a Grotto which is named the Lourdes Grotto. This is festooned with many religious figurines which were placed as petitions for the good health of individuals and families.
The River itself was partly in bright sunshine which initially made photography difficult but luckily some clouds appeared which improved our prospects.
After a time some of the members went to the German Cemetery to continue with their shots.
At about noon the Group then met in the Armoury for coffees and discussions about the morning’s opportunities.
It was generally agreed that there should be a later Autumn visit in order to capture the colours at the River.
All in all, a very successful and enjoyable first Autumn Outing of 2023.
