Club Outing – Howth

6 December 2024 | Club Outings

Five OffShoot members traveled northside on Saturday 30th November to the affluent town of Howth with its picturesque fishing port only 2 minutes’ walk from the DART.

While the skies were slightly overcast, thankfully the rain stayed away and allowed us to shoot various interesting buildings, anglers, birds and colourful trawlers along the busy West Pier of Howth Harbour. 200m away is the Howth Lighthouse easily accessible from the ground, which is rarely available for the majority of lighthouses in Ireland and of course just across the water lies the nearby Ireland’s Eye.

A lonely busker competed with the squawking of hungry seagulls as they followed a fishing trawler back into port and we spotted a large grey seal bobbing up and down beside the trawlers who was more than happy to pose for the curious onlookers.

The drop in temperature was noticeable and no outing would be complete without a caffeine lift so, luckily, a nearby fish market came to our rescue with the tempting aroma of fresh fish and chips wafting around us as we sipped our hot coffees……maybe next time we’ll yield to this temptation.
