Club Outing – Duffy’s Circus

30 December 2024 | Club Outings

On 19th December 18 of our members ‘rolled’ up to Tallaght Stadium for a very unique outing – to Duffy’s Circus. A famous name in the circus world, Tom Duffy’s circus was established in 1979, but Tom’s lineage goes right back with a family circus tradition that started in 1775.

We were kindly invited to return to the circus, after a successful outing in October this year.

Given access to photograph the rehearsal and the live performance, we were all in our element! Getting to capture Acrobats, daredevil motor cyclist, Wheel of death and the trapeze to name a few…

The Big Top had been given the ‘Christmas Treatment’ and was looking very glamorous with red carpet style bulb lights at the entrance and a sleigh for family photographs.

Being able to freely move around the big top and pick whatever vantage point suited our shot, was fantastic. Then the struggle was real managing the speed of the outstanding performers, the low light and smokeysmokey atmosphere!
It really was an amazing spectacle to see and absolutely stretched us all. Even our seasoned bird photographers had a challenge catching the fast moving trapeze and acrobats!

The show was very enjoyable to photograph and to just observe these extremely talented artists in their element in the big top. We were made feel very welcome at every stage which was very special. I am sure we will be back!
