There were plenty of options for photography, and we split into smaller groups to explore various aspects of Dublin’s city lights. One group set off down the Quays, passing the Custom House. At that point, it was still too bright to fully appreciate the projections on the building. Upon reaching the Sean O’Casey Footbridge, we were treated to stunning views of the Samuel Beckett Bridge, illuminated with brilliant, moving displays of turquoise and pink lights. The adjacent National Conference Centre added to the scene, providing opportunities for varied compositions, enhanced by reflections in the River Liffey.
At George’s Dock, we encountered the lighting display Constellations by Studio Lemercier, Juliette Bibasse, and Joanie Lemercier. This installation, launched the previous Wednesday by Xavier d’Argoeuves, Cultural Counsellor of the French Embassy, offered fantastic photo and video opportunities, with projections displayed onto a fine mist water curtain.
Afterward, we returned to the Custom House. From there, some members ventured toward O’Connell Street, while others continued along the river to enjoy the lights along the Boardwalk, the Ha’penny Bridge and the multi-coloured Millennium Bridge. By now Temple Bar and Grafton Street were alive with Christmas lights, bustling crowds, lively buskers, and revellers, offering abundant material for creative photography.
