The outing to the Grand Canal Dock on Tuesday 25th March provided members with an opportunity to capture the vibrant cityscape under the cover of night.
Known for its modern architecture and scenic waterfront views, the Grand Canal Dock offered a unique blend of reflective waters, urban lights and striking structures that proved ideal for night time photography.
The outing began at 8:00 PM, with ten participants gathering near the Grand Canal Theatre. Participants experimented with long exposure techniques, capturing the play of light from the surrounding buildings, boats, and street lamps.
As the evening progressed, the group ventured to various locations around the dock, including the waterside promenade and the newly developed tech buildings that line the canal. The reflections in the water were particularly impressive, offering excellent opportunities for capturing symmetry and movement.
The blend of modern glass buildings, old warehouses, and contemporary art installations provided a range of subjects for photographers to explore. Notable structures, such as the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and the iconic Google headquarters, were popular spots for both group and individual shots.
Participants took full advantage of the warm, artificial lighting, experimenting with exposure settings to capture the ambiance of the night. The contrast between the vibrant city lights and the calm waters of the canal created a visually dynamic setting for photography.
The night-time outing to the Grand Canal Dock was an enjoyable and productive event. It provided an excellent opportunity for photographers to practice their craft in a unique setting while capturing the beauty of Dublin’s evolving waterfront.
