The Junior Liffey Descent was held on Saturday, 18th May 2019. The 10KM route started in Leixlip and finished in Chapelizod.
Unlike the slalom event outing in March, where the many gates to be negotiated produced opportunities for action shots, much of the 10KM route was in flat tranquil water.
The selection of the Lucan Weir for the outing offered an excellent vantage point to photograph canoeists, many of whom were very young, facing up to the challenge of the rapid descent and fast-flowing water of the weir. Once the canoeists descended the weir, they had a stretch of tranquil water to the finish.
Helpful assistants were available to rescue those who found themselves frozen and marooned at the top of the weir. Other assistants were available to “rescue” some canoeists at the bottom of the weir.
