On a chilly Friday evening (26th January 2024), 23 members met on Marina Pier in Dun Laoghaire to photograph the moon as it rose. The outing should have taken place the previous evening but, as the forecast was for heavy cloud it was decided to wait for clearer skies and an almost (98.9%) Full Moon.
The approach worked and at its designated time the first pink glow of the moon appeared. It rose steadily and surprisingly quickly towards, and then behind the East Pier Lighthouse. It continued its ascent as people adjusted settings, bracketed shots and changed metering methods.
Eventually, having enjoyed the spectacle, taken their photographs and caught up with friends, everyone gradually headed off to enjoy the rest of their Friday night.
As one person remarked as they left, “what a great way to start the weekend”.
