The early morning silence was interrupted by the distant bellowing of stags announcing their presence to the indifferent does. More arrived, synchronised joggers, hi-viz cyclists and of course photographers watching the deer herds move from one grassy spot to another. Eventually, the clash of antlers was heard and every vantage point taken to try and capture this fierce but brief mating ritual. Eventually the loosing stag accepts defeat and is chased away by the victorious dominant male. This is one outing when telephoto lenses are an advantage as you need to keep a safe distance from preoccupied large stags.
Shooting and standing for a long time whetted our appetites and the lure of a coffee and something to eat proved too irresistible; luckily, the nearby Phoenix Park Café provided the food and drink to fuel our lively conversations.
