On a dark, dry Sunday morning in December, 10 members gathered at the pier in Coliemore Harbour. This was our fourth and final attempt at a sunrise outing in 2024, all previous attempts being cancelled due to weather. In fact, this one had been postponed from the previous day due to Storm Darragh.
Everyone set up their tripods in front of the wall facing Dalkey Island. The sea was still rough and periodically waves crashed over the wall to the left.
People discussed the settings they were using and took practice shots while they waited. Eventually the golden light of the sun could be seen rising above the horizon. Unfortunately, due a considerable amount of cloud a small sliver of light and some ‘god rays’ were as good as it got, but people took all the shots they could.
When it was time to go, we headed for The Coliemore pub in Dalkey for a very welcome breakfast and coffee.
As one member remarked, “it wasn’t epic!”, but we all agreed that it was still worth it.
