Club Outing – Astrophotography Lough Boora

Lough Boora Discovery Park is in County Offaly, between Tullamore, Birr and Clonmacnoise.

This is an Astrophotography Shoot. Photographing the Milky Way Galactic Centre with some of the artefacts/sculptures in the foreground is the objective. The Skytrain (illustrated below) is one of the most popular foreground choices.

On Google Maps, simply search for ‘Lough Boora Discovery Park’. Driving time approx 90 minutes from Dublin.

The ideal time for the Galactic Centre visibility is between 02.26 and 03.55 on Friday morning. We will meet at 01.45 am on Friday morning at the Car Park shown on the map below.

Headlights are essential, and one with white and red lights is preferable. The red light is to allow people to adjust to the dark and not spoil the shots of other photographers. We will also use flashlights to light up the foregrounds.
