The agility of the Common Kingfisher (Queenfisher)!
Their bright turquoise head and back and orangey-copper breast are a dazzle of colour and make this bird easy to identify. A male kingfisher will have a completely black beak while a female has an orange patch at the base.
They possess exceptional fishing skills and at just 12cm high with strident blue plumage and the flying-style of a speeding bullet they are exceptional hunters. They eat a versatile diet that includes fish, insects, and other prey. I could sit and watch them all day, such beautiful skilful birds.

Grogans stained glass 2
Inside Grogans pub on South Wicklow Street. The pub is well known for its links to literary and artistic clientele, such as Flann O'Brien, as well as local regulars. The owner commissioned artist Katherine Lamb to produce two stained glass pieces, 'the day people' and 'the night people' capturing the characters who passed through the doors. This one represents the night people.

Male ring-necks feature a white ring around their neck with body plumage of gold, brown, green, purple, and white. A rooster's head has plumage of blue and green with a distinctive red wattle. Females are much less showy with drab brown feathers.

Covid memorial windows
As an enjoyable project with my camera club I joined a group looking at stained glass windows. This one is from St. Teresa's church in Dublin 8. The story behind the windows particularly attracted me. It was commissioned by the parish to represent aspects of the Covid pandemic on the local community. The overarching symbol of the rainbow was one used by the parish during the pandemic, symbolic of new life. the left hand window represents autumn and winter, with a memorial to those who died during the pandemic. the right hand window represents spring and summer and new life.
