News

Some excellent pictures at last week’s judging of the ‘Summer Experience’ competition. Congratulations to all who participated.

This Monday we have Peter Gordon along to share some of his photographic experience with us. Many members of the club will be familiar with Peter and his Irish Light (https://irishlight.ie) and Explore Light (https://explorelight.com) websites, and indeed have been on many of his trips. It should be a good and informative evening.

National Shield Competition 2019

The IPF National Shield Competition takes place on the 17th November 2019.  We are now calling for images, from our members, for selection to represent OffShoot in this competition.

The deadline for entry will be the 15th October.  Entries to be submitted electronically. Full details already sent by email to all members.

There is no specific theme or restrictions regarding subject matter, so it is an opportunity to have your best images (if selected)  printed to exhibition standard by the club and share the stage with images from other Irish photography clubs.  So start shortlisting your own top colour and mono images, so you are ready to submit your entries by the deadline.

Please forward your best mono and colour images to the link below. A maximum of 5 colour and 5 mono is allowed per entrant. The images should be in jpg format, with approx. 2000 pixels on the long side and named as follows.

999-PictureTitle.jpg

Replace 999 with your membership number.  Please do not use your own name, as the selection committee needs to review the images anonymously.

External Exhibitions and Events

‘Quiet at the Back’ Mandy O’Neill

At the Gallery of Photography until 27th October. For over a decade, award-winning photographer Mandy O’Neill has engaged with children and young people in formal education contexts in primary and post-primary schools in central Dublin.

O’Neill’s photographs have emerged through a mix of formal residencies supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and more local arrangements in keeping with the dynamics of school life from year to year.

Clann: Theresa Nanigian

In the Lexicon Library, Dun Laoghaire until 17 November. ‘Clann’, a spirited portrait of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County, is a series of large scale photographs of groups who live, work and play in the county. The work reflects the fact that Irish clans have long been composed of members far beyond blood relations, and demonstrates the cultural shifts in what the county has become and where it might be headed. Nanigian was awarded the visual art commission for 2018/19, funded by the Arts Council.
