News

In recognition of the great news that OffShoot won 1st Place in the IPF National Shield, we will show the winning panels at Monday's meeting.

We will follow this by a viewing of the recent LIPF panels awarded to Helen Black and John Wiles.

Who knows, we may even have some kind of a Celebration?

2020 Committee

We're reaching that time of year when it is time for the AGM again and we need to elect committee members.

A number of the current members have been in their current roles for 3 years and need to step down. We are urgently in need of new blood on the committee and want to invite you to join the committee.

Details of the roles can be found in section 11 of the constitution here.

Please contact secretary@offshoot.ie or speak to one of the committee members at the meeting if you would like to know more or are interested in joining.

Photo Quiz Question

Several industries use watermarks on their photos to distinguish their work from others and enforce copyrights. Yet some digital cameras use a digital checksum (similar to the way humans have fingerprints) to ensure that any tampering with the digital file can be identified. In which field would this digital checksum (or digital signature or fingerprint) be the most important?

A. Papperazzi

B. Sports photography

C. Wedding photography

D. Forensic photography

Photo Quiz Answer

D. Forensic photography

With the invention of computers and most people having access to a digital camera, it is possible to make changes to the digital files of photos. This 'fingerprinting' can help scientists to detect whether or not a photo file has been edited, changed or tampered with in any way. As technology advances, it is important for investigators and courts know that any photo they are looking at hasn't been tampered with since it was taken. It is also important to note that your average camera doesn't have this functionality, only high-end cameras specifically designed for this type of work have this 'fingerprint' ability.
