Last Monday Night
Last week we had fantastic and enjoyable talk by Simon Roy, a wildlife photographer from Yorkshire in which he showed us how he plans and executes his favourite images. Simon showed some stunning images and his patience and determination to get the image he wanted was well rewarded. Have a look at his website, www.simonroyphotography.co.uk, for inspiration.
Next Monday Night
Next week we have a talk on the subject of Long Exposures by Derek Michalski, Polish born but resident in London. His passion for long exposure and impressionist photography has translated itself into his editorship of the Long Exposure Photography Magazine LEMAG. Have a look at Derek’s website http://derekmichalski.com/ and you will see we will indeed be in the presence of a master.
Outings
We are, more or less, released from the grips of Covid with no real limits. However, we have agreed to maintain the registration to facilitate contact tracing should we experience a Covid outbreak within the group.
Thoughts for today
“If you are out there shooting, things will happen for you. If you’re not out there, you’ll only hear about it.” Jay Maisel
“Buy a good pair of comfortable shoes, have a camera around your neck at all times, keep your elbows in, be patient, optimistic and don’t forget to smile.” Matt Stuart
“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs” Ansel Adams
Learn With Me
Robbie O’Leary and Frank Kenny gave us a look into the world of Macro photography and how to reach this tiny space. Their excellent presentation was accompanied by some stunning images.
Exhibition
There is a certain pride in printing and framing one of your images and presenting it for public critique or praise. As Ireland opens again, we propose to have a ‘real exhibition’ but we need your help.
David Whitaker and Tony Jobling did a fantastic job in previous years and they have decided to pass the mantle to younger folk. We have two offers of assistance for this task but we would ask if anyone else would join us in this prestigious task.
But we also need space to show the images, preferably a large space for 100 or more photographs. Does anyone have a contact in a shopping centre or anywhere which has a good footfall? We’ve had some thoughts and suggestions but we would appreciate more.
If you can help, please let us know by contacting secretary@offshoot.ie
IPF National Shield Autumn 2021
While we do not have an exact date for the 2021 National Shield due to the pandemic, it is time to start gathering the images on behalf of the club.
So members are now asked to gather images together for submission. A member can enter 5 colour images and 5 mono images for consideration.
Please look back over your current and back catalogue to choose your images. The images can be from any time period and any genre.
Barry Dillon, our IPF Liaison, will be in touch again shortly with details on how to submit the images – but in the meantime get stuck in!
After the high standard set at the 2021 Club Championships, we look forward to seeing your submission.
