We are restarting the Flickr "Theme of the week" this week.
This is not a competition rather an opportunity to learn a bit about an area of photography or try a different type of photography. The photo selected each week can be picked because it's technically excellent or equally because it's unusual, funny, creative or thought-provoking.
To enter your shots just upload from your Flickr page to the OffShoot Flickr page before 7 PM the following Friday. Please title your shot with the theme of the week + your own title.
For example this week the theme is "lines" so your title might be something like: 'Lines - Birds on a wire' or 'Lines - Ripples'.
Wishing you an enjoyable and educational 2022 from the Flickr theme pickers.
For those who may not have engaged with this yet here's how it works. Each week a theme/topic is set.
During the week you shoot or process an image in that theme. and load it on the Flickr site. One image will be selected as the "theme pic of the week" and published in the following week's newsletter.
Why bother? The theme pic gives you an opportunity to explore and try out many different styles and types of photography. It increases the variety of images on our site and is an excellent opportunity to expand your creativity and photography skills and you get your picture in the weekly newsletter!
This week's theme is "Lines"
One of the 7 elements of photography Lines can be long, short, thick, and thin. They can also go horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. They can also be straight, curvy, jagged or broken. But most importantly, lines can also cause the viewer to do something. It can lead the viewer’s eyes and guide his focus through the outlines of your subject and other key focal points in a photograph. It can also convey emotion and mood.
Lines also serve an important function of connecting two different elements of your photo. They can give an image structure, which is a crucial part of making an image feel deliberate and intentional. A path leading from foreground to background has a way of making the image feel connected.
Sometimes, lines in a photo are imaginary, but they’re still there. Imagine a portrait of a child looking at a toy truck. The space between the child and truck might be “empty,” but the viewer knows it is important anyway. There’s a line – a connection between the two elements of the photo that makes each one more impactful.
