Next Monday Night – Venice Carnival
After our Zoom competition judging last week, we return to St Brigid’s School next Monday for a presentation by Barry Dillon of his images from the Venice Carnival. As usual, our start time will be 8pm.
IPF National Shield Competition 2022
The IPF (Irish Photographic Federation) National Shield competition is an annual inter-club competition which is open to all clubs who are affiliated to the IPF. While the IPF have not yet announced the Shield competition for 2022, it would be expected to be along the lines of previous years and I expect it to be a printed competition. Clubs may submit a panel of 10 colour images and a panel of 10 monochrome images.
Offshoot enter this competition annually and have done well in the past.
Who Can Enter?
A fully paid-up member of Offshoot up to and including Level L distinction can submit images for selection (with some exceptions - see below)
This is the full list of people who are excluded from entering the Shield as per the IPF website
· Any person who has received an IPF Associateship or Fellowship distinction or similar from FIAP, the PSA, or any other similar distinctions from any other photographic organization.
· Any person who has been awarded more than one IPF medal in IPF National Competitions.
· Any person who had an image that was chosen to represent the IPF in international competitions.
· Any person who has received acceptances with five or more image titles, or any award including a ribbon, at FIAP, and/or PSA recognized salons.
· Any person whose club considers him or her to be of advanced standing in any discipline of photography.
Any person who holds a diploma or degree in photography from any recognized educational institution in Ireland or elsewhere
All images used in the competition shall be the original work of the author. The photographer retains full copyright of their images.
Call for Images
We are looking for entries from all our eligible members. Please forward your best mono and colour images to the dropbox link below . A maximum of 5 colour and 5 mono is allowed per entrant. (from any year or any genre) The images should be in jpg format, with approx. 2000 pixels on the long side and a maximum size of about 2mb named as follows:
999_MyPictureTitle.jpg
Replace 999 with your membership number. Please do not use your own name as part of the title, as the selection committee needs to review the images anonymously. Please do not use punctuation such as commas, apostrophes, or special characters. Please avoid using spaces. You can use a Capital letter to identify the beginning of a Word (e.g., My Picture Title becomes MyPictureTitle).
[Please, please, please rename your images as per this format. Not doing so adds massively to the administration of our entry]
We will form a selection committee and shortlist of contenders to represent the club. We will later seek full resolution images for the shortlisted entries to select our Mono and Colour entry panels. We frequently have a shortage of Mono images, so we ask our members to make an extra special effort submitting Mono images.

Shoot With Me is Getting Going
Its good to report that our Autumn Shoot With Me is now making progress. The final allocation of members to the SWM groups will be completed this weekend. So, if you have applied to take part, you will be contacted by your group leader over the next week.
We all look forward to the two SWM Showcase evenings in December to see the results of the groups’ efforts!
Some Club Images remain to be collected
There are still a number of images from the Club Exhibition which have not been collected by their owners. Please contact Emily Gallagher if you want to retrieve your photos – she will organise directly to get them back to you.
We are also trying to locate one missing image – Na Bristi by Rory Wallace. If you inadvertently collected this image please let Emily know.
Our exhibition went very well and proudly displayed some great images from club members. The DLR Lexicon have agreed the same timing and arrangements for our 2023 exhibition. |
