Next Monday Night – Member's Photo Critique

After a fascinating presentation by Paul O'Brien last Monday on Astrophotography, we turn our attention next Monday to looking at our own images.

All members are encouraged to bring about 4 images either on a small print, mobile phone or tablet. We will break up into multiple small groups and the members will show and discuss their images in this group. We'll ask members to move between different groups and hopefully, by the end of the night, you will have some constructive feedback on your images and maybe have got to know a few new people in the club!

As usual, the meeting will be held in St Brigid’s School commencing at 8 pm.

IPF National Shield Competition - November 2022

This is the last chance to submit images for this competition. Image submission for OffShoot members closes at 11 pm Sunday 9th October 2022

The IPF (Irish Photographic Federation) National Shield competition is an annual inter-club competition which is open to all clubs that are affiliated with the IPF.  It has just been confirmed that the competition will take place in November and it will be digital competition once again this year to give the IPF some flexibility in the (hopefully unlikely) event of any surge in Covid.  Clubs may submit a panel of 10 colour images and a panel of 10 monochrome images.

OffShoot enters this competition annually and has done well in the past.

Who Can Enter?

A fully paid-up member of Offshoot up to and including Level L distinction can submit images for selection (with some exceptions - see below)

This is the full list of people who are excluded from entering the Shield as per the IPF website

  • Any person who has received an IPF Associateship or Fellowship distinction or similar from FIAP, the PSA, or any other similar distinctions from any other photographic organization.
  • Any person who has been awarded more than one IPF medal in IPF National Competitions.
  • Any person who had an image that was chosen to represent the IPF in international competitions
  • Any person who has received acceptances with five or more image titles, or any award including a ribbon, at FIAP, and/or PSA-recognised salons.
  • Any person whose club considers him or her to be of advanced standing in any discipline of photography.
  • Any person who holds a diploma or degree in photography from any recognized educational institution in Ireland or elsewhere

All images used in the competition shall be the original work of the authorThe photographer retains the full copyright of their images.

Call for Images

We are looking for entries from all our eligible members. Please forward your best mono and colour images to the dropbox link below. A maximum of 5 colour and 5 mono is allowed per entrant. (from any year or  any genre) The images should be in jpg format, with approx. 2000 pixels on the long side and a maximum size of about 2MB named as follows:

999_MyPictureTitle.jpg

Replace 999 with your membership number. Please do not use your own name as part of the title, as the selection committee needs to review the images anonymously. Please do not use punctuation such as commas, apostrophes, or special characters. Please avoid using spaces. You can use a Capital letter to identify the beginning of a Word (e.g., My Picture Title becomes MyPictureTitle).

[Please, please, please rename your images as per this format. Not doing so adds massively to the administration of our entry]

We will form a selection committee and shortlist of contenders to represent the club. We will later seek full-resolution images for the shortlisted entries to select our Mono and Colour entry panels. We frequently have a shortage of Mono images, so we ask our members to make an extra special effort to submit Mono images.

Next Competition - Reflections

The theme for the next competition is Refections which you can interpret any way you like for example reflections on surfaces, water, windows, puddles, mirrors, metal, shiny objects and wherever your imagination takes you.

As usual please save your images in  JPEG format and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and Image Title:

L2-001-Image title.jpg

This is a printed competition for Levels 2 and 3 and Projected for Level 1.  Hand-in will be on Monday 7th November November  at the club for the printed images (and on the Dropbox link for projected images)

You can submit up to 2 images.

The link for printing and for the projected images will be sent out over the next few weeks.

The judging will be on Monday 21 November and the judges are Eamonn and Christine from Skerries photography.  Their website is https://skerriesphotography.com

We would encourage everyone to participate especially new members, as the feedback from the judges is always useful and informative.

Some Club Exhibition Images Remain to be Collected

There are still a number of images from the Club Exhibition which have not been collected by their owners. Please contact Emily Gallagher if you want to retrieve your photos – she will organise with you directly to get them back to you.
