March is now with us and the earth abounds with new growth, birds seek nests to rear their young and the flowers come into their own. We are surrounded by a surfeit of this to photograph so out with the camera, dust off the cobwebs of winter and show us all what you can do. Whatever you do just enjoy yourself because photography must be fun.
This Monday Night – Peter Gordon
Next Monday, 6th March, Peter Gordon will deliver a presentation live in the school. Peter Gordon is well known to members of Offshoot and his courses and photography trips have been enjoyed by so many. His aim is to present a new visual understanding of time and place and to reinterpret landscape, and place.
Peter has exhibited his work in a host of galleries and art shows while also winning numerous awards. You will be in the presence of a master so come and be entertained and educated.
Last Monday Night – Competition Judging
Last Monday, 27 February, our Open Theme Club Competition was judged in the school live in the school. The images presented were of a high standard and all who entered are to be congratulated. Entering a competition is always associated with apprehension but the feedback you get is always worth the effort.
As usual, all who organised this competition deserve our praise and thanks for a job well done.
So, why not prepare for the next competition in April on the NATURAL WORLD? Tailor-made for all wildlife and landscape photographers.
New IPF National Photography Competition
The IPF has launched a new National Photography Competition which is open to all members of IPF-affiliated clubs – of which Offshoot is one.
All the details are up on the IPF website which can be found here:
https://irishphoto.ie/national-photography-competition/
They have a great sponsor this year in Birmingham Cameras with a fantastic prize: Nikon Z6 II camera + Nikkor 24-70mm f4.0 S lens.
The Shoot With Me Programme is underway
Nine Shoot With Me groups are now established and the group leaders will be in touch with members to get activities underway.
IPF Liaison Role Still to be Filled
We still have one important position to fill on the Offshoot committee – IPF Liaison. If you would be interested in volunteering for this role, or if you would like some more information about it, please contact any member of the committee as soon as possible.
“Car Boot Sale” Scheduled for 20 March
The next “Car Boot Sale” will be held on 20 March in the school hall. This provides members with an opportunity to sell any surplus gear which might have accumulated or, on the other hand, to purchase that item you have always wanted at a reasonable price.
Please send Emily (chairperson@offshoot.ie) a list of items you would like to sell with a brief description and the price you would like for them. Emily will circulate a list of items on offer before the sale evening so members can see what is available.
Please collect Printed Images
We have a significant number of unclaimed images stored in the school. This includes prints from the recent competition, the last Shoot With Me showcases and also from earlier events – even before the Covid disruption.
So please come to collect your prints on Monday evening or arrange for another member to collect them on your behalf. |
