Join the Offshoot Committee
Offshoot is our club, and you can help influence how things happen. Like every social club, Offshoot doesn’t run on fresh air and we need new blood to keep things ticking over. Don’t say you haven’t time because even a limited involvement takes a minimal amount of effort.
We need you and you CAN offer so much. Don’t just come to the meetings for the craic (although you are always welcome) without thinking about what effort has gone into the events you enjoyed. Like Uncle Sam, Offshoot needs you NOW!
We have to have a Treasurer in place by the AGM on the 11th of December. We also have positions available on the Outings Committee and as our IPF Liasion Officer. The present incumbants have said that they will help with the handover of roles to the new Committee Members.
Last Monday
Last Monday we got to see the second half of the wonderful Photo Challenge projects. It was a fantastic evening with amazing images presented. We decided to run the Photo Challenge again in 2024. Thanks to Gerry Donovan who designed the Photo Challenge concept.
Next Monday
We have a change of plan for next Monday, Deirdre's wildlife night has been temporarily postponed. Kevin will present on his year-long project to create a series of images of flowers and plants frozen in ice. He will discuss the processes involved, including freezing, photographing, and editing. He will also present the final panel of images. Bring your down jacket, as it might get cold !!
So, join us this Monday to see this brilliant project.
Shoot With Me Prints Showcases
All the SWM group activities are now well underway.
To help everyone involved with their planning, the SWM Showcases are scheduled for 27 November and 04 December.
To allow Steve time, images will need to be submitted for printing no later than 10 days before the first Showcase ie 16 November latest.
Two Important Reminders – Uncollected Prints and Exhibition Books
1. Emily recently sent an email reminder to members showing prints which remain uncollected in storage in the school. If any of these are yours, please arrange to collect them at one of our in-person meetings over the next few weeks. We are under pressure for space and we will have to dispose of unclaimed items by the end of November.
2. We have several 2023 Exhibition Books still available for purchase (€30). If you are interested, please contact any member of the committee to reserve your copy.

Reflection with Cathal Naughton We were lucky to have Cathal McNaughton present his fantastic story and images to the club last year. He is now presenting as part of the FIAP Photo Academy Online Events on Thursday the 23rd of November 2023, at 7pm.
In 2018 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Rohingya refugee crisis in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Now working for EPA Images as a Managing Editor he was previously chief photographer for Reuters in India and has travelled extensively documenting stories of world importance, most recently in Ukraine.
During this presentation we will look at images spanning a 25 year career documenting the best and worst of humanity. Cathal will give an insight into the emotional strain and sacrifices that need to be made in order to become a leading photojournalist.
If you haven't seen Cathal’s work before do take a look at his website https://www.cathal-mcnaughton.com/
