News

We are heading into the Autumn and summer has passed with our normal blend of sun and rain. For those who temporarily departed these shores for a sunnier clime and sport a suntan to arouse jealousy, welcome back. For those who joined all the outings and activities we need to see your images and hear your tales. And, yes, we are back in the school on Monday. We look forward to another superb Shoot With Me and the mellow fruitfulness of Autumn in Ireland.

Next Monday

We have the judging of our first competition of Autumn 2024 – Dereliction. This is always an opportunity to see the talent in Offshoot, so do come to the school and enjoy some images of old and new relics.

Outings

The team of organisers under Eithne’s wing continue to present us with opportunities for socialising with a camera. Just look at the schedule below where every subject under the sun and moon is available for you to enjoy.

Our first outing will be to Dalkey Island on Saturday 7th September.   We will meet at Coliemore Harbour at 10am for the short boat trip over to the island.  The cost will be €10 payable on the day.  There is no need to prebook.

Shoot With Me

The Shoot With Me mastermind, Pat Divilly, has been eagerly exhorting members to lead a group for the Autumn session. We are nearly there, we just need three, or ideally four, additional group leaders to achieve our goal.

It is disappointing that while we have a small group of members who regularly volunteer to lead a group, most of the 70+ members, who repeatedly take part in SWM, opt out when it comes to leading a group.

If you are a member of this “opt out” group you know the enjoyment, vibrance and buzz of participating. Why not step up and lead a SWM group. You don’t need to be an expert; just someone who seeks to learn more about your topic. The group ethos makes learning fun. So, this is your opportunity to make your contribution by leading a SWM group. Why not?

Having group leaders identified now will allow all the groups to be active before the end of September. Just send Pat an email Pat Divilly (pat.divilly@outlook.com) with your suggested group theme and a short one paragraph outline of what you have in mind.

Next Club Competition - Mono

Our next competition will be on the theme of Mono. Mono is defined as a photograph that utilizes differing amounts of light instead of different colours to capture and represent images.

Monochrome (Black and White photography) uses varying shades of neutral gray instead of colours of the objects photographed.

As usual please save your images in JPEG format and name them with your Level Number, Membership Number and Image Title: L2-001-Image title.jpg

As always, we encourage all of you (especially new members) to enter. The biggest benefit from entering is the feedback from independent judges to help you improve your photography.

You can submit up to 2 images so get shooting and we look forward to seeing a great selection of images.

This is a printed competition for all levels. Upload will be Monday 16 September and hand in will be  Monday 23 September for judging on Monday 30 September.

You need to upload images to Steve on the link below which facilitates payment and make sure you say collection rather than delivery.
