Autumn cometh
The last days of September herald the onset of Autumn; the weather becomes more seasonal, the trees have started to change to russet and yellow and the leaves fall to the ground. Autumn is that magic time of year with mists and colour and trees bearing their special fruits for wildlife and humans alike. It is a wondrous time to be a photographer surrounded by this bounty so keep the camera charged and ready.
Last Monday
Another practical evening with an enjoyable Tabletop Photo Session. Small items crept from corners and LED panels provided light.
Next Monday
On Monday, 30th September, we have the Judging of our Mono competition. This is a printed competition, and it will be nice to examine afterwards the detail and nuances of tones which make mono photography so rewarding.
Same But Different – a Processing Challenge
As everyone knows photography and processing digital pictures are open to interpretation, ideas and inspiration.
So as a fun challenge, we have provided 4 raw files here:
Take as many of the 4 as you would like and process them how you want. Then we will review members’ results on 04 November at a club meeting.
Please upload your processed images here by Friday 01 November and put either your name or membership number on them:
The idea is to inspire people to attempt to process images and, maybe, to show their results and reasons for how they did it etc.
(Please note that the images remain the property of the photographer)
Outings
The team of organisers under Eithne’s wing continue to present us with so many opportunities for socialising with a camera. Just look at the schedule below, choose your preference(s) and come and enjoy photography.
Shoot With Me
The Shoot With Me groups are announced, filled and in the starting blocks.
This project, unique to Offshoot, is the medium for learning, enjoyment, vibrance and just the buzz of participating. The showcases are scheduled for 25th November and 2nd December, so plan your activities around these dates.
Images for the IPF National Shield
The IPF National Shield Club Competition will be held on November 9th in The Barbican Centre, Drogheda, Co Louth. We plan to submit colour and mono panels of eight members' images each. We are allowed to have one image per photographer in each panel, with a maximum of one 'L' image per panel.
This competition is open to members of the club, including those with an 'L'. Please start now to consider which images you might like to submit for consideration for the club panels. A Dropbox link for your images will be provided shortly.
This is a perfect opportunity to get involved with the IPF. We need as many members as possible to take part and to enter up to five images in colour and or black and white images.
2025 Calendars
Robbie O’Leary has got some lovely 2025 calendars, with a very high- quality finish. He has negotiated with them to do the same for any Offshoot member who wishes to create calendars: double A4 size, €10 euro each for a minimum order of 20. If you’re interested, contact Robbie at olearyr@iol.ie and he’ll send you on the details. He will also bring along a sample next Monday night if anyone would like to see it. This company is based in Dublin (Ballymount).
New Committee Members Needed
Several existing committee members will not be continuing in 2025 having served the constitutionally permitted terms. We are now looking for new members to help steer your club into the future.
If you would consider taking up this exciting opportunity, please contact any existing committee member to discuss your interest.
Next Club Competition – Open
Our next competition in November is open to all images so keep your camera clicking. We will give you all the details in the forthcoming newsletters.
As always, we encourage all of you (especially new members) to enter. The biggest benefit from entering is the feedback from independent judges to help you improve your photography.
You can submit up to 2 images so get shooting and we look forward to seeing a great selection of images. |
